FreeCell has become one of the world's most popular solitaire card games. It is widely considered to be one of the very best as well, since most FreeCell hands can be won, given sufficient skill and patience.
FreeCell is played with a standard 52-card deck, and all cards are dealt face-up into eight columns. The object is to build the four foundations up from ace to king, in suit.
Within the tableau, cards are built in descending order and alternating colors. Only the top card of each column is available for play. There are also four empty spaces (the "free cells") which may be used to temporarily hold a single card. Any card may be moved into an empty column of the tableau.
If you manage to complete all four foundations, you win!
